It was great to chat with Sophie about her business, the recent growth of the business and her goals for the future.
Sophie was born in Surrey leaving at 8 years old to move to Bude where she went to an alternative school. The school enabled the children to be creative in the afternoons, from photography to stained glass, art to pottery, how brilliant is that!  This clearly enabled Sophie’s creative side to flourish, her Dad being a chartered surveyor was also handy and she has great memories of having a lovely childhood living on a farm, helping out on the farm and when she got time being creative, such as drawing on slate or painting. Sophie explained that she always loved art and went on to study contemporary craft at Falmouth University.
This creativity has clearly rubbed off on her children who her also creative, especially her daughter who loves art and loom bands. She enjoys being creative and both children love using Sophie’s workspace in her attic.
Sophie’s transition from her work being a hobby to taking it to a business only started at the beginning of this year. She was looking for other work but people kept saying that she should follow her interest of felting and set up a business. After running out of excuses and with a very supportive partner she decided to do something for herself and set up her own business.
Sophie joined the LilyBoo mentorship programme ran with the Creative Gallery in Bodmin earlier this year and has since commenced selling her work in shops, booking herself in for craft fayres and is working on launching her first workshop.
Sophie shared that her work is now in a shop and she has recently been part of a pop up shop in Bodmin. Along with this she has commenced taking commissions and going to craft fayres. Its exciting to share that Sophie is launching her first felting workshop in October, with bookings now open for this.
It was lovely to hear from Sophie of the inspiration she takes from wildlife and nature, particularly local scenery. She takes lots of pictures, sketches in her book and makes lots of lists to keep ideas alive.  She enjoys creating mood boards to help the creative process and spends time on Pinterest gaining inspiration from others, such as the Gentleman Felter and Birdie and Blossom Felting.
Its clear chatting to Sophie that there is a lot going on, from looking at more abstract work to trying out felted shawls, along with launching her first workshops, its exciting times ahead. Sophie would love to grow her catalogue of workshops and increase her presence in shops around Devon and Cornwall. She is working on revamping her website and would love to be better known for what she does. Her goal within 5 years is to make some money!
